Awards that recognise and reward companies that stand out for their environmental performance and contribute to sustainable economic development, through sustainable innovations in management, products and services, processes, international cooperation or combining business and biodiversity.
The National Business Environmental Awards (formerly European Business Environment Awards – Spanish Section) have been convened since 1987 by the European Commission to recognize those companies that successfully combine the economic viability of their businesses with environmental protection.
The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has among its objectives to boost economic activity linked to the environment, promote the sustainability of companies and encourage employment and the creation and consolidation of green companies.
In Spain, the National Environmental Awards for Business have been held since 1997, and for the winning companies they represent an important recognition both from society and from the world of business and sustainability. The awards improve their visibility and open up new business opportunities for them. The Biodiversity Foundation has been the entity in charge of managing the Spanish section since 2013. Only the winners and finalists of the national awards are eligible to participate in the European competition of these awards, organized by the European Commission.

Within the national competition there may be Autonomous Sections, coordinated by third parties. Since 2000, the Government of the Basque Country, through the IHOBE, has organised the Basque Country section.
The awards ceremony is usually held to coincide with World Environment Day, June 5, and traditionally the awards have been awarded by His Majesty the King. Everything related to the logistics of the event and the awards, in line with the activity of the Biodiversity Foundation, is carried out with sustainability criteria.

The design of the Awards incorporates the same principles and values as the Awards. OiKo Design Office based its original format on the concept of forest as an intrinsic element of human beings due to the benefits provided by the conservation of its biodiversity. The awards were made from recycled, upcycled, and local materials. Each of the categories that make up the Award was represented with an emblematic tree of Spain: the holm oak, the Scotch pine, the Aleppo pine and the oak.
In 2019, Resistible was used, which, maintaining the original idea, has redesigned its format by combining ecology, design and innovation. They have been handcrafted with recycled materials and from sustainable forests. Both the awards and their packaging are made of cardboard using 100% reused fibers, natural paints and glues free of heavy metals.
