The initiative seeks to strengthen the endogenous economic development of the Ribera del Duero region, thanks to research, management, conservation and enhancement of the territory and its biodiversity.

The project aims to create rural employment and give added value to the agricultural, livestock and tourist products of the area.

The specific objectives are:

  • Protect the species and spaces that make up the great biodiversity of the Ribera del Duero, mainly those that are in regression or threatened, encouraging land stewardship, as well as environmental planning.
  • To promote a regional R+D centre, unique in the surrounding provinces and with a state projection, which bases its technical and scientific work on the search for the added value of the preservation of biodiversity, its products and services.
  • To improve, adapt and expand the existing facilities and equipment for education, training and environmental research in the “Las Loberas” environmental complex.
  • To strengthen the capacities of the local population in the different disciplines and trades necessary for the good management of the territory (livestock and sustainable agriculture, conservation, pastoralism, production of artisanal products, forestry work, tourism, marketing, etc.).
  • To offer a stable programme of education, training and leisure in nature, which will directly reach some 100,000 inhabitants, to raise awareness and educate neighbours, technicians and politicians about the value and economic and cultural potential of the biodiversity of the area.
  • Produce and market artisanal products, which reactivate the local economy and are defenders of the preservation of agricultural and livestock biodiversity, mainly those derived from wine and dairy products.
  • Create direct and indirect jobs linked to the project, as well as others that may be generated.
