The main objective of the project is to integrate the transition areas of the wetland to the olive cultivation fields of protection of the Sebes Nature Reserve, in Flix, Tarragona.
It will be carried out by promoting traditional agricultural and livestock uses, starting from a model farm and creating a network of properties with good environmental practices in the surroundings of the protected area through stewardship agreements.
More specifically, it is intended to:
- To know the degree of conservation of the Mas Pitota estate, the area where the action will be carried out.
- To study the characteristics and uses of the farms adjacent to the wetland.
- Prepare a feasibility project for organic farming and a quality mark for the farm.
- Apply conservation measures in the ecotone area of Mas de Pitota.
- Obtain other escrow agreements with landlords.
- Disseminate the practice of establishing stewardship agreements as a mechanism for conservation and the importance of ecotone areas, centuries-old olive groves, and traditional practices in the conservation of species and habitats.
The planned actions are as follows:
- Knowledge of the current state: collecting and analyzing cadastral data; carry out inventories of fauna, vegetation and current uses; analyze soil characteristics and compile existing studies.
- Implementation of the ecological management model on the farm of action: conserve olive trees, implement grazing areas, draft a feasibility project for organic farming, restore the old rubble dump, establish quality indicators and monitor evolution.
- Awareness and education: design and distribute didactic and informative material.
- Stewardship agreements with landlords: networking, promoting and establishing agreements.
