PIEC. The ecological footprint as a business strategy

MITECO

The PIEC project aims to address different aspects to minimise the ecological footprint in footwear production, treating each of them in a specific way.

The PIEC project aims to address different aspects to minimise the ecological footprint in footwear production, treating each of them in a specific way.

In addition, initiatives will be promoted that contribute to the creation of companies in the environmental sector and increase the competence and qualification of workers and unemployed.

The general objective of the Plan for the Promotion of Eco-innovation and Sustainability in the Footwear Industry in Spain, PIEC, is to promote change in traditional companies in the footwear sector, to promote the implementation of new management strategies, aimed at maintaining employment levels and the sustainability of the sector.

In this second edition of the PIEC Plan, criteria will be introduced for the internalisation of the minimisation of the ecological footprint of these companies and their workers, through actions based on training-action models, which provide qualitative and quantitative results for the recipients, with special interest in disadvantaged groups.

The aim is to promote the contribution of these companies to the mitigation of climate change and their incorporation as a business strategy, which contributes to shaping a more competitive and sustainable sector that favours the maintenance of employment levels. The sharing of any successful experience, through the PIEC Business Network, translates into a very useful mechanism from which to share and disseminate with the rest of the business fabric of the sector, the best practices to minimize the ecological footprint of footwear.
