This is the first pilot project for the reintroduction of the European mink in the river ecosystems of northern Spain, specifically in the Salburua wetlands, in Álava.
More specifically, the project aims to:
- To know the adaptation to the natural environment of European mink specimens bred in captivity, with a view to a future population reinforcement project.
- To know the dispersal of the released European mink specimens and the establishment of territories.
- To evaluate the mortality and survival of the specimens released in their adaptation to the natural environment.
- To know the possible negative effects on the reproduction of females of intraperitoneal emitters.
To achieve this, specimens will be released, released specimens will be monitored and American mink populations will be controlled.
