This project aims to update the information on the population size and the breeding and wintering area of the red kite in Spain.

The project “Realization and compilation of data from the III national census of red kites in Spain”, launched by SEO/BirdLife, aimed to update information on the population size and the breeding and wintering area of the red kite in Spain. This update made it possible to review the conservation status of this species, classified as endangered.

Among the activities that will be developed within the framework of this project are:

• Design of the works and establishment of methodology
• Preparation of instructions and worksheets based on the designed methodology
• Establishment of a network for the coordination of work at regional level
• Call for census among volunteers and recruitment of professionals
• Fieldwork
• Data Collection, Organization, and Cleansing
• Performing Analysis

The execution of the project has managed to evaluate the conservation status of the red kite based on parameters such as the size of the general population, the size of the population by autonomous community, the area of distribution of the population in Spain, the area of distribution by autonomous community and the evolution of the population in Spain.
