The main objective of the project is to ensure the sustainable development of the exploitation of macroalgae in Spain, as a guarantee of safeguarding coastal ecosystems.

The initiative brings together different actions, including; data will be collected on the regulations in force in the Autonomous Communities, at the national level and in the European Union. The characterisation of the different models of exploitation of macroalgae by species and region in Spain will be carried out. The framework of the project also plans to compile information on sustainable management models applied at European and global level and to develop sustainability indicators by organising a working group with experts from all sectoral stakeholders. A series of proposals for guidelines for the use and application of sustainability indices and, finally, to prepare and disseminate a Manual of Sustainability Indicators and guidelines for their application.
