This initiative aims to contribute to the conservation of the Vilcabamba-Amboró Ecological Conservation Corridor through the integration of new conservation spaces of local importance created with initial management processes.

The project is located in the Municipal Protected Area Headwaters of the Maniquí River, in the municipality of San Borja in the Department of Beni, the Cuenca del Fuerte Municipal Protected Area in the municipality of Samaipata in the Department of Santa Cruz and in the Municipal Conservation System of the Municipality of Moco Moco located in the Municipality of Moco Moco in the Department of La Paz.

Specifically, it is intended to:

  • To generate technical capacities in municipal governments for the strengthening of technical capacities and the improvement of the management of municipal areas in situ.
  • Promote local participation in the management of the area through the creation of an inter-institutional management committee, as an instance for defining policies and monitoring the activities carried out in the municipal protected area.
  • Promote the socialization of experiences through the website of the municipal conservation network, as a space for the exchange of information, experience in environmental management and conservation initiatives.

The actions included in this project are:

  • Organization of three training workshops, in each of the three municipalities, on technical, biological, legal, financial aspects and planning and management of municipal protected areas.
  • Prepare two consultation sheets on a) characteristics of the area and conservation values and b) legal and technical aspects for the management of municipal areas, aimed at the social actors and decision-makers involved in the management of protected areas.
  • Provide advice and technical and legal assistance to municipal governments for the development of initial action plans for the management of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
