WWF carries out the “SOS Rabbit” project that develops a basis for the correct management of the rabbit in Spain. Its preservation is vital for some endangered species in Spain such as the Iberian lynx or the imperial eagle whose main food is this small mammal, hence the great importance of its conservation.
This initiative has started with an in-depth analysis of the situation of rabbit populations in the country, and the measures currently in place for their management. Subsequently , a draft of the National Strategy for the conservation of the rabbit will be created to prevent the species from suffering dramatic population declines such as those it has recently suffered due to diseases and pests. Finally, the situation of the rabbit and the most appropriate solutions to improve it will be made known to the public.
