The objective is to generate, from the existing traditional varieties, competitive vegetative material that allows the profitability of agricultural activity.

It is a project that aims to avoid the regression of the agrobiodiversity linked to these areas, maintaining the local varieties that generate added value for producers and guarantee the survival of agricultural farms, as well as the balanced relationship between the wild and cultivated environment.

The overall objective is to generate, from the traditional varieties existing in the areas of the Natura 2000 Network, competitive vegetative material that allows the profitability of agricultural activity in these areas as a component of a unique ecosystem to be protected.

Concrete actions focus on:

  • To compile written and oral information on the traditional agricultural varieties existing in the areas of Catalonia belonging to the Natura 2000 Network.
  • Collect seeds thoroughly from all varieties grown in protected areas.
  • Catalogue the seeds and decide on which varieties should be prioritised for actions.
  • Develop an evaluation essay.
  • Select tomatoes harvested in the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i Serra de l’Obac, Parc de Collserola and Parc del Montnegre Corredor.
  • Disseminate the results among the producers and entities involved.
