The initiative aims to develop erosion control actions and improve biodiversity in semi-arid protected areas, affected by the execution of reforestation with terracing techniques.
Within the project, the planned actions are:
- Assessment of the situation of terracing with respect to erosion, desertification and soil degradation phenomena.
- Establishment of a long-term monitoring procedure.
- Production of a native plant and processing of seeds for restoration actions.
- Removal of leaf litter from the Aleppo pine to promote the plant recolonisation of the terraces.
- Correction of critical erosion points.
- Planting of native flora, with special attention to species that shape habitats of community interest or structure the ecosystem, or are relevant for the control of soil erosion.
- Dissemination of the project “in situ” (signage, meeting with users in the area) and knowledge transfer (web and manual).
- Meeting on the restoration of areas affected by terracing, aimed at technicians and managers.
- Volunteering in support of the project.
