The project aims to promote environmental awareness through different activities related to sustainable “no-kill” fishing, mainly of trout, and also of other species such as barbel (Barbus bocagei), escallos (Squalius carolitertii) and bogas (Chondrostoma polylepis).

The project aims to promote environmental awareness through different activities related to sustainable “no-kill” fishing, mainly of trout, and also of other species such as barbel (Barbus bocagei), escallos (Squalius carolitertii) and bogas (Chondrostoma polylepis).

These are species existing in the rivers of the region, and therefore it is intended to raise awareness among fishermen by insisting on the importance of knowing and valuing the river as a source of resources and a generator of quality of life.

The main objective of the initiative is the creation and adaptation of a school, with which it is intended to introduce those interested in the world of sustainable sport fishing. The centre will provide training for beginners, as well as fishing projections and will hold meetings and assemblies, among other events, related to fishing in the river, as well as knowledge of the ichthyofauna and its ecosystems.

All this in order for the recipients to acquire knowledge of the closest environment, the flora and fauna of the region, as well as the characteristics of some species, respecting the natural habitat and the ecological balance and learning the different fishing techniques that respect the environment, from the most traditional to the most modern.

The objectives to be achieved are:

  • To promote the responsible exercise of sport fishing as a dynamic element of the local environment and enjoyment of the environment, compatible with the conservation of species.
  • Establish a programme of training activities, aimed at children and young people, to offer them their first fishing experience.
  • To improve the tourist offer of the area by promoting nature tourism offered to visitors.
  • To carry out exchanges of information with other fishing schools, encouraging the creation of working groups that organize events on aspects of interest in the field.
  • Involve professional fishermen in the project so that in the future fishing school they can offer their experience to younger fishermen.
  • To support and advise the recently created Fishing Association of Sanabria and Carballeda on all those issues that are necessary to help them achieve the proposed goals.
