The application and development of environmental policies for biodiversity conservation require the active and committed participation of society. This proposal reflects the vision of SEO/BirdLife: a world rich in biodiversity, where humans and nature coexist in harmony.

The objectives and actions in this project constitute the framework for SEO/BirdLife’s work planned for 2022 and 2023, with the current General State Administration whose program includes an important commitment to the ecological transition; a European Commission with a similar agenda, thanks to the EU Green Agreement and the European Biodiversity Strategy and the opportunity provided by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), as well as an international agenda of enormous significance for the future of the planet.

The main objective of the project is to guarantee the participation of society in the elaboration, implementation and monitoring of environmental policies.

Specific goals include:

  • Follow up on global biodiversity and climate change policy and participate in international meetings where biodiversity and climate change policies and other related policies are defined, providing Spain’s experience and showing its needs. Including all areas of the United Nations.
  • To participate in the development and implementation of European environmental policy, contributing Spain’s vision and experience.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of state environmental policy, especially in the legislative initiatives promoted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
  • Promotion of land stewardship as a contribution to the conservation of biodiversity and natural resources.
  • Disseminate and communicate the project.
  • Follow-up of United Nations negotiations affecting biodiversity and climate.

  • Actively collaborate in stewardship platforms, networks or initiatives.
  • Promote custody agreements.
  • Participation in conferences and/or workshops related to land stewardship.
  • Dissemination and communication of the project.
  • At the international level, we have participated in key events and negotiations, strengthening the organization’s position as an environmental advocate. It highlights its participation in what has finally been the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly that recognizes access to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a universal human right, on which SEO/BirdLife has been working in coalition with other entities for years.
  • At the European level, it has led important initiatives and participated in various task forces defending the interests of civil society in areas such as agriculture, environmental conservation and marine resources and aquatic ecosystems.
  • At the state level, comments have been made on regulations and participation in councils and committees, which have influenced decisions on Spain’s natural environment.
  • The constant work in land stewardship has resulted in several agreements for the protection of habitats and harmony between nature and local communities.
