The eradication of the use of poisoned baits for predator control, which critically affects protected and threatened species, is the objective of the actions included in this project.

All the actions of SOS Veneno complement the state and regional policies to combat poison, established in the National Strategy for the Conservation of Biodiversity and in the National Strategy for the fight against the Illegal Use of Poisoned Baits in the Natural Environment.

On the other hand, through the promotion of volunteering and the involvement of veterinary clinics and veterinary colleges, this project also supports specific initiatives of the Autonomous Communities and SEPRONA, especially those related to inspections, detection of baits and poisoned animals.

SOS Veneno provides the population with a permanent channel for reporting that contributes to the detection and action of the competent authorities in cases of poison in the natural environment, contributing to increase awareness and participation of the public in general, and the veterinary sector and owners of domestic pets in particular. about these situations.

The activities to be undertaken in this project are:

  • Maintenance and management of the SOS Veneno telephone.
  • Judicial appearances: monitoring of ongoing proceedings.
  • Training and recruitment of volunteers for a National Network of Volunteers Against Poison.
  • Collaboration with veterinary clinics to establish the diagnosis and definition of a case notification mechanism.
  • Distribution of the notification and action protocol in cases of poisoning to veterinary clinics throughout Spain, through provincial colleges.
  • Promotion of the Pact against Poison, so that the greatest number of public entities and bodies adhere.
