The Island Consortium of the World Biosphere Reserve of La Palma seeks to increase biodiversity in the territories declared Biosphere Reserves.
The Island Consortium of the World Biosphere Reserve of La Palma seeks to increase biodiversity in the territories declared Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO. To this end, the aim is to involve citizens in areas in which the Administration cannot preserve or recover natural, cultural and landscape resources, proposing new uses and establishing measures for environmental improvement and the enjoyment of the population.
The initiative has several specific objectives. Thus, within the framework of the project, the Strategic Plan for Integrated Land Stewardship in Biosphere Reserves will be drafted and the Network for Integrated Land Stewardship in Biosphere Reserves will be created.
On the other hand, a training activity will be launched for managers of Biosphere Reserves to promote and implement Integrated Land Stewardship in the Spanish Network of Biosphere Reserves.
Pilot projects will also be developed in the form of prototypes in the La Palma World Biosphere Reserve for their subsequent implementation in other Biosphere Reserves. Finally, it seeks to involve landowners and civil society in the management of the territory to improve the landscape and biodiversity in Biosphere Reserves.
Among the activities that will be launched are:
- Signing of agreements and drafting of pilot projects.
- Training for the implementation of Integral Land Stewardship in Biosphere Reserves
- Creation of the Network of Integral Land Stewardship in Biosphere Reserves
- Campaign to publicise the strategy and pilot projects
