Study of adaptation to the environment of rehabilitated raptors

MITECO

This project aims to determine the adaptive capacity of specimens of different species of nocturnal raptors after a period of rehabilitation, released in different physical conditions, with different causes of entry and by different methods.

This project aims to determine the adaptive capacity of specimens of different species of nocturnal raptors after a period of rehabilitation, released in different physical conditions, with different causes of entry and by different methods.

The results obtained help to assess the effectiveness of the recovery process of injured or orphaned specimens that they carry out. The conclusions of this study will allow the improvement of future projects for the reintroduction or reinforcement of populations of endangered species, when projecting the release of specimens with the greatest guarantees of success.

This project includes the training of volunteers through the organization of training sessions to make them aware of the project, as well as the necessary techniques to carry out the monitoring of radiotagged specimens.

It also includes the marking of the specimens and the subsequent release of the species, which will be specially monitored, especially during the first days to check its specific location and avoid long dispersive movements.

In addition, a document will be prepared that is expected to be the basis for an improvement of rehabilitation and release techniques for reintroduction and population reinforcement projects.
