Sustainability is a source of competitive advantage for companies and one of the main drivers of innovation. Under these premises, this project, which constitutes the third phase of a work begun in 2008, seeks to promote innovation in companies based on the improvement of business management of climate change and, with it, sustainability.

In this way, changes in production patterns will be indirectly obtained to reduce greenhouse gas emissions due to consumption. In addition, this project aims to take advantage of the innovation capacity of social entrepreneurs and bring them a growing employment opportunity, such as the advanced management of climate change in the company.

On the other hand, with the additional objective of helping more aware consumers to minimise their impact on climate change, they will be offered information on the behaviour of companies in the face of it and the tools to convey their demands and concerns to business groups.

With the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the adoption of good practices in the business management of climate change will be promoted, throughout the life cycle of products and services in certain sectors, from procurement and manufacturing, to the use and final disposal of waste.

Specific objectives include:

  • To promote innovation in companies through the improvement of corporate management of climate change.
  • Encourage consumers to use climate change prevention criteria in their purchasing decisions.

The activities contemplated are:

  1. Prepare a report on the results of the analysis of the climate change effort of at least 35 companies in at least seven consumer sectors.
  2. Develop an interactive campaign to raise awareness and in turn give voice to consumer demands and perceptions of the attention companies pay to climate change.
  3. Write reports of recommendations for improvement for at least 25 participating companies.
  4. Creation of a “Climate Lab”, a seminar aimed at entrepreneurs and the virtual community to offer an exchange of information on entrepreneurship and solutions to climate change in the company.
