The Taula del Sénia community is unique in the world: in 18 municipalities there are 4,080 thousand-year-old monumental olive trees, with a trunk perimeter of more than 3.50 metres at 1.30 metres above the ground.
All are of the farga variety, which is characterized by being very old, large, difficult to collect and alternate production. In the area, gardening tasks are carried out with great danger of being replaced by young trees of non-native varieties. Only the Valencian Community has legislated protecting monumental trees, but the final regulation is still lacking.
The entity considers it necessary to protect this unique living and environmental heritage, but also to raise awareness of its other values: historical-cultural, landscape, and especially agricultural-economic-tourist and, in addition, to help owners, other farmers and municipalities so that its conservation and enhancement helps them to obtain economic profitability.
The project seeks, therefore, to prepare and launch a natural (living) museum that can be visited in a controlled way. But all this must be accompanied by a major awareness campaign and, then, advertising and dissemination work.
The planned actions are:
1. Information and awareness campaigns.
2. Promotion and dissemination campaigns.
3. Activities to restore the environment and adapt the access roads.
4. Creation of an oil point of sale.
5. Opening of a natural museum.
6. Signposting of thousand-year-old olive trees. Design and placement of information panels.
7. Publication of informative material.
8. Creating routes.
9. Promotion of the natural museum.
10. Preparation of informative material for the project.
