This project aims to show the present of one of the most important natural, economic and cultural phenomena in the history of Spain, transhumance.
This project aims to show the present of one of the most important natural, economic and cultural phenomena in the history of Spain, transhumance.
The initiative consists of a documentary series that aims to contribute to the conservation of these spaces and to the declaration of the National Network of Livestock Trails as an itinerary of European Cultural Heritage.
Each of the episodes of the series shows a transhumant itinerary. These are the episodes of the series:
- The ravines of the Merinas, from the Cantabrian Mountains to Extremadura. It runs through the Cañada de la Plata or Vizana and the Cañada Leonesa Occidental, to the Extremadura pastures of the Monfragüe Natural Park.
- The cord of the Avileñas, from Extremadura to Gredos. From the pastures of Trujillo, it crosses Monfragüe and reaches the Sierra de Gredos in the province of Ávila. It runs through the Cañada Vizana and the Cordel del Valle (Jerte)
- The path of the wild cattle, from the Sierra de Albarrracín (Teruel), to Sierra Morena (Jaén). It follows the Cañada Conquense and the Vereda de los Serranos, from the Montes Universales it crosses the Serranía de Cuenca, La Mancha to the foothills of the eastern Sierra Morena.
- Transhumant horses from the Pyrenees in La Vall Fosca, in the region of Pallars Jussa (Lleida), in the Catalan Pyrenees. Other horse movements in the enclave of Llivia.
- Transhumants of the Navarrese Pyrenees. Through the Cañada de los Roncaleses. From the Roncal Valley, Navarrese Pyrenees, to the Bardenas Reales de Navarra and the Bardenas de las Cinco Villas (Tauste, Zaragoza).
- Transhumant to the Mediterranean. Pastors of the Maestrazgo. By the Llosar Route, from the Ebro Delta, in Amposta (Tarragona), to the Maestrazgo mountains of Teruel.
- Transhumants of the Sierra de Albarracín. Through the Cañada Real Conquense, from the Montes Universales (Teruel), to Sierra Morena (Jaén).
- Transhumants of the Aragonese Pyrenees. Through different Aragonese cabins, from the Benasque Valley (Huesca), to the pastures of the lower Cinca, in the Ebro Valley.
- Transhumant goatherds from Extremadura. Through the Jerte Valley (Cáceres). Along the Cordel del Valle to the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos, in the mountain area of Tornavacas (Cáceres).
- Transhumant goatherds from Extremadura To the Sierra de la Vera (Cáceres). From the pastures of the Monfragüe Natural Park to the Sierra de la Vera, along the Cañada Real Trujillana and the traditional path from Plasencia to La Vera.
