The Biodiversity Foundation has organized the act of Tribute to the figures of Hoffmann and Valverde, pioneers of nature conservation in Spain.

Luc Hoffmann – Swiss scientist, naturalist and philanthropist – has been awarded the medal of the Order of Isabella the Catholic for a lifetime dedicated to patronage, support and defence of causes in favour of nature conservation in Spain and around the world. Professor Hoffmann has donated to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) a series of documents considered of great value that were given to him for safekeeping by his colleague and friend José Antonio Valverde, founder of Doñana and professor at the CSIC. This important legacy returns to Spain to form part of our scientific and historical heritage.

During the event, Dr. Juan Luis Arsuaga participated, who contributed his vision on the current state of Spanish science in research on the origin of man, and Dr. Fernando Hiraldo delved into the legacy of Hoffmann and Valverde.
