It is necessary to implement effective solutions to restore our ecosystems and natural heritage in order to mitigate the current environmental degradation. To this end, the information generated from the academic field on ecosystem restoration must be transferred to society as a whole.

Ecological restoration applied to agroecosystems is an effective solution to:

  • Reconcile agricultural production with the conservation of biodiversity and the increase of ecosystem services other than those of production.
  • Improve the environmental connectivity of the territory.
  • Promote the protection of the landscape.

The general objective is to promote the ecological restoration of Mediterranean agroecosystems and the environmental connectivity of the territory through the development of a scientifically and technically robust web tool that facilitates the design and execution of hedges of native woody vegetation in agricultural spaces.

  1. Selection of woody species and preparation of the distribution database by municipality.
  2. Documentation of the ecological characteristics and main ecosystem services provided by the species and their systematization in a database.
  3. Preparation of technical data sheets of the selected woody species.
  4. Design and construction of a website adapted to mobile devices (AGRESTE).
  5. Promotion of land stewardship as a tool for the restoration of Mediterranean agro-ecosystems

The general result of this project has been "AgreTTos", a scientific web tool that will facilitate thedesign and execution of hedges of native woody vegetation in agricultural spaces, through which the user will be able to design hedges on farms in the context of the Mediterranean climate. Its use will allow owners, technicians, land managers and anyone interested to select useful plant species for the creation of hedges or other structures in continental Mediterranean agricultural areas.
