The initiative was born with the aim of developing and consolidating a strategy aimed at environmental training with practical actions aimed at improving the natural environment and recovering biodiversity.

The initiative was born with the aim of developing and consolidating a strategy aimed at environmental training with practical actions aimed at improving the natural environment and recovering biodiversity.

The project aims to create a new line of action called “Volunteering Action for Biodiversity”, within the framework of the Aula de la Naturaleza program that is being taught in the Penitentiary Center of Cordoba, in order to integrate practical actions that help the training of inmates.

The proposed activities include a map of experiences that will help the inmates to put into practice the theoretical knowledge acquired in the Nature Classroom program. At the same time, they will contribute to a general social commitment to the improvement of the natural environment.

The central action of the project will be the reforestation with native species of the perimeter of the Penitentiary Center, which is located in a highly deforested countryside area.

Specific objectives include:

• Consolidate the line of action of the Nature Classroom programme of the Cordoba Penitentiary.
• Apply a methodology to execute a reforestation program of the space, explaining to the members the reason for the chosen species, their function and the conservation conditions.
• To raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and the value of the landscape, as well as to help regenerate the latter in the prison space, with serious problems of erosion and soil loss.
• To contribute to the recovery of plant biodiversity, specifically plant species of interest that are on the Red List of Spanish Vascular Flora.
• To make known the different processes of seed gemination and the pre-germinative treatments necessary for their subsequent sowing.
