Restoration of 22 Duero and Ebro River Nature Reserves thanks to the Royal Carters Cabin project

The Cabaña Real de Carreteros launched the project “Volunteering in rivers of River Nature Reserves” with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation.

The main actions that have been carried out are the conservation of the landscape, the restoration of natural enclaves and the improvement of the ecological connectivity of habitats linked to fresh water through field work, cleaning of riverbeds, revegetation of banks, elimination of exotic species and reinforcement of native fauna in the wetlands of the Duero and Ebro basins.

The project has made it possible to improve the state of conservation of the natural and cultural heritage linked to the rivers, banks and wetlands of the River Nature Reserves of Castilla y León, La Rioja and the Basque Country, with the participation of residents of all ages and profiles, companies and administrations, both in rural and natural environments, as well as in urban areas. In total, 678 volunteers and 7,052 participants have participated, that is, 7,730 direct beneficiaries in total, allowing each and every one of the proposed activities to be carried out satisfactorily, not only contributing to the environmental improvement and enhancement of the river heritage in 44 km of 22 sections of rivers, but also to continue with an initiative that already has several years of experience and with a very high degree of acceptance by the local population.
