This project seeks to create a trans-European tourist experience along a set of wetlands that follow the migratory route of geese from Finland to Doñana.
The initiative “Wetland conservation through an international sustainable tourism network: The Geese Route”, has as its main objective to create a trans-European tourist experience along a set of wetlands that follow the migratory route of geese from Finland to Doñana.
This activity aims to highlight some of the wetlands that are part of the Natura 2000 Network and generate economic resources that will serve for the conservation and management of these natural spaces. To this end, this project will focus on the connection of the Iberian wetlands of Urdaibai, La Nava, El Oso and Doñana.
The development of this project is not only intended to contribute to giving an economic boost and to the enhancement and conservation of these natural spaces, but will also have an impact on the development of local communities.
Thus, these activities are intended to provide added value to the interpretation centres, thanks to the updating and incorporation of new content that will allow the activity in the wetlands themselves to be revitalised by guaranteeing a constant flow of visitors, many of them from other European countries. Within the framework of the project, a tourist package will be prepared with a travel booklet that each visitor must complete upon arrival at the wetlands.
The initiative will serve to highlight the value of the interpretation centres near the wetlands.
The activities that will be launched consist of:
- Create a corporate image of the route
- Design and develop common informative material for the entire project.
- Design specific material for each center.
- Edit a tourist passport for visits to each centre.
- Create a common website for all schools.
- Set up a space in each centre that allows content to be shared with the other centres to follow the biological cycle of the goose.
- Prepare a story as the guiding thread of the project.
- To promote national and international tourist packages aimed at nature lovers.
- Disseminate these tourist packages at fairs and specialized tourism points.
