The LIFE SHARA project, coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, has held its third management committee in Madrid. The objective of this initiative is to strengthen the governance of adaptation to climate change and increase resilience to climate change in Spain and Portugal.
The day has made it possible to know the status of the actions of the project, which has been in execution for six months, in addition to the forecasts for the coming months. Among the actions that are being carried out, the preparation of two studies stands out. One of them will analyse the scientific literature on adaptation to climate change over the last 20 years in Spain. The other will focus on the news published in Spanish media on adaptation to climate change over the last five years.
The session addressed the diagnosis of the state of AdapteCCa, a platform for consultation and exchange of information on adaptation to climate change whose improvement is another of the objectives of the LIFE SHARA project. The initiative aims to improve the quality and quantity of the information on the platform and facilitate its use as a tool for governance, in addition to strengthening its technical capacities for adaptation and awareness-raising; and the strengthening of coordination and cooperation between key agents (private sector, Spanish administrations and Portugal).
In addition, the first steps have been taken to establish the cooperation framework between Spain and Portugal to exchange experiences and share similar problems around adaptation.
The project has a budget of more than 1.5 million euros, 57% co-financed through the LIFE funds, the European Union’s financial instrument for the environment, and has as partners the Spanish Office for Climate Change, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the Autonomous Agency of National Parks, through the National Centre for Environmental Education (CENEAM) and the Portuguese Agency for the Environment.
