12 of them will compete in the European phase of the awards
The jury of the Spanish section of the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE Awards) has selected 25 Spanish companies as winners and runners-up of these awards in its 2019/2020 edition. In addition, 12 of these companies will also compete in the European phase of these awards, whose jury will meet next May and the award ceremony will take place next autumn.
The The jury, which has a total of 16 members, is made up of renowned personalities in the field of environment and business, as well as experts from the green technology sector and academia. It is made up of entities such as the CSIC, IDAE, ENISA, Forética, CCOO, CEOE, Global Compact, B-Corporation, SEO/Birdlife, COTEC Foundation, Ecoembes, CDTI, Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (through the Directorate-General for Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification, Quality and Environmental Assessment), and the Biodiversity Foundation. which coordinates the awards in its Spanish section.
In the 2019/2020 edition of the EBAE Awards, the following have been received: 115 candidatures, from 16 Autonomous Communities, of which the jury has highlighted the quality of 25 companies to be winners or recognized with a second prize. De las 25 seleccionadas, 12 will participate in the European section of the European Business Awards for the Environment and will compete with the winners of the national sections of other European countries. These Spanish companies are: Tecnoresiduos R3 S.L., Naturgy, SOUJI, FCC Medio Ambiente S.A., IDAI NATURE, S.L., AGROAMB PRODALT, S.L., Cepsa Química S.A., Tejidos Royo S.L., BASOINSA S.L., ACCIONA, SEMILLAS CANTUESO SL, HEINEKEN España.
In addition, the following have also been selected: FERROVIAL, EL CORTE INGLÉS, SMURFIT KAPPA NAVARRA, EROSKI S. The awards ceremony of the Spanish section is temporarily suspended, due to the situation caused by Covid-19.

The EBAE awards have been convened since 1987 by the European Commission to recognize those companies that successfully combine the economic viability of their businesses with the protection of the environment.
The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has been, since 2013, the national coordinator in Spain of these European awards.
The 2019/2020 edition has five main categories , highlighting companies that introduce eco-innovations in management (Category 1: Management), in the products or services they offer (Category 2: Product and/or service), in their processes (Category 3: Process), in international business cooperation (Category 4: International business cooperation) and in their contribution to the sustainable relationship with biodiversity (Category 5: Business and Biodiversity).
