The project seeks to promote the economic and social benefits of sustainable environmental management of companies in Gran Canaria, promoting the environmental improvement of SMEs, micro-SMEs and business associations on the island.

The project seeks to promote the economic and social benefits of sustainable environmental management of companies in Gran Canaria, promoting the environmental improvement of SMEs, micro-SMEs and business associations on the island.

Given that tourism and services act as the main driving forces of the island’s economy, and that only a small part of the companies linked to these sectors have an approved environmental management system, there is a need to deepen the promotion of the economic and social benefits of the same.

The project will bring all the existing tools and legislation closer to the productive fabric, to improve the image and management of the company. To this end, workers and managers of SMEs and micro-SMEs in Gran Canaria will be informed and advised on environmental management.

Special attention will be paid to the tourism and services sectors, although always respecting the following order of priority in order to include the most disadvantaged groups:

• Special employment centres or social economy companies.
• Rural company, cooperative or fishermen’s guild.
• Business associations or industrial estates.
• Companies with a high potential environmental risk.
• SMEs and micro-SMEs led by women.
• Other SMEs and micro-SMEs on the island.
