120 socio-economic agents have been involved.
A technical document has been prepared that compiles the forecasts on climate change in the Spanish islands and the adaptation measures carried out in this area.
A document has also been prepared with the final results of the Island Connection project and a report on the results of the two Work Days in the Balearic and Canary Islands.
In addition, the project has made it possible to set up the “Island Connection” Working Group.

Archipelagos and islands are areas that are very vulnerable to climate change. Due to their characteristics, they are exposed to suffer to a greater extent the consequences of rising temperatures, rising sea levels or changes in ecosystems, among others. Hence, the Third Work Program of the PNACC 2006-2020 considers the island among its areas of work.

For all of the above, this project has aimed to analyse the knowledge and perception of the key socio-economic agents of the Spanish archipelagos in terms of adaptation to climate change, to connect experts and public officials in the field, as well as to publicise the work that is being carried out and to seek new lines of work.

The project has sought to highlight the high vulnerability of island environments in Spain to climate change, activate actions in the field of adaptation and connect the main socio-economic agents.

  • Through an extensive literature review and interviews with key agents, the forecasts on climate change in the Spanish islands and the adaptation measures carried out in this area have been analysed.
  • Two days of work have also been held with key agents in each archipelago to learn about the perception of climate change in each regional area and what the barriers and opportunities for adaptation were.
  • An Island State Meeting on Adaptation to Climate Change has been organized in Conama 2020, where various experts have established several proposals for action to promote an inter-island cooperation program in Spain.
  • Finally, the main results obtained and proposals on the actions in which to continue working to improve adaptation to climate change in the Balearic and Canary Islands archipelagos have been disseminated.
  • During its development, 120 socio-economic agents have been involved in the project.
  • The implementation of the initiative has made it possible to carry out an analysis of knowledge on adaptation to climate change in island environments.
  • Within the framework of the project, several working days have been held with key agents in both archipelagos to learn about the perception and priorities in terms of adaptation.
  • The entity has prepared a technical document that compiles the forecasts on climate change in the Spanish islands and the adaptation measures carried out in this area.
  • A summary document has also been prepared with the final results of the Island Connection project and the activities carried out in the field of adaptation to climate change, as well as a report on the results of the two Work Sessions on the Priorities of Adaptation to Climate Change organized for the Balearic and Canary Islands.
  • The project has made it possible to set up the “Island Connection” Working Group. A multidisciplinary group of professionals interested in deepening adaptation to climate change on the islands and in detecting good practices that can be implemented in these territories.
  • In addition, during the initiative, the Webinar European experiences in climate change adaptation on islands and the Island State Meeting on Adaptation to Climate Change were held in Conama 2020.
