The Baix Ter is one of the areas of the Internal Basins of Catalonia with the highest risk of flooding due to its configuration of the alluvial plain and the torrential regime of the rivers. The prevention of floods and the preservation and improvement of the river environment is a priority, since after the effects of storm Gloria, they were inserted in the municipal political agendas, for the correct economic and social development of the same, preserving the safety of citizens and their property.
Hidronet Baix Ter aims to eradicate the problems of recurrent flooding suffered by the urban centres of the lower course of the Ter, due to the historical reduction of floodable areas in the area. The project will change the drainage model through rapid evacuation through paved channels, for another based on a network of interconnected lamination wetlands that slow down the flow of water and reduce the risk of overflow. This model, in addition to the hydrological benefits, proposes the recovery of biodiversity and the improvement of the ecological status of aquatic systems.
Some of the actions included in this project are:
Strategy for the prevention of floods and promotion of aquatic biodiversity from lamination surfaces in the water network of the lower course of the River Ter (Hidronet Baix Ter)
