Innovative investments in a circular economy ecosystem for the manufacture of fabrics from recycled yarn from fibre obtained from pre/post consumer waste

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The project consists of replacing the current spinning and winding machines with new ones that will allow the use of fibre from pre/post consumer waste for the manufacture of recycled yarn; and in the replacement of air looms with rapier looms adapted to recycled yarn for the manufacture of different fabrics. The virgin raw material consumed will be reduced by 8% in the case of HIMIESA and 8% in the case of INMATEX. Indirectly, a reduction in energy consumption of 39.8% will also be achieved in the case of INMATEX and 38% in the case of HIMIESA.

The main objective of this project is the creation of a circular economy ecosystem based on the reduction of virgin raw material used in the production processes of both participants, betting on the use of raw material of recycled origin. The use of recycled raw materials reduces dependence on virgin raw materials, thus reducing the environmental impact associated with the extraction and production of new fabrics. In addition, this project will help reduce the amount of textile waste that ends up in landfills, thus contributing to a more sustainable circular economy. Indirectly, it will lead to energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to sustainability and the fight against climate change. Likewise, the ability of the machinery to handle fiber from waste of different colors and compositions will contribute to the versatility of the recycling process, promoting the reuse of a greater variety of materials, preventing them from ending up in landfill. Finally, the fact that both investments are made in the same autonomous community and in close proximity contributes to the sustainability of the process. In conclusion, this project will not only improve the sustainability of HIMIESA and INMATEX’s production process, but will also reinforce the commitment to circular economy principles, aligning with the Spanish Circular Economy Strategy (EEEC).
