School of Protected Areas 2: Improving professional capacities in the face of global change

Empleaverde+ program

The project is based on the training and training needs detected for professional groups linked to the management and conservation of protected areas and their areas of influence, assuming that the improvement of these personal and professional capacities is key for protected areas to develop their full potential of services and benefits to society. especially in the face of the challenges posed by global change and the response in terms of ecological transition. In this sense, the project builds on previous training work developed by the Fernando González Bernáldez Foundation within the framework of the Empleaverde calls, and especially gives continuity, development and scope to the previous project “School of Protected Areas”.

The general objective of the project is to deepen and broaden the improvement of personal and professional capacities around protected areas, especially in relation to the challenges related to global change and the ecological transition.

This general objective is specified in two specific objectives:

  1. To provide opportunities for updating (professional retraining) to active professionals linked to protected areas and their environment on especially relevant or emerging issues: among others, connectivity and ecological restoration, adaptation to climate change, communication and education for the challenges of global change and for the ecological transition, forest management, health and entrepreneurship in rural areas.
  2. To promote, through these improvements in the people involved, positive dynamics in territorial areas affected by different environmental and social challenges, such as global change, fires and extreme events or depopulation.

It consists of 9 online and blended training actions that include topics such as connectivity, restoration, rural entrepreneurship, environmental education and communication, or forest management, all related to challenges such as global change and more specifically climate change, fires and extreme and catastrophic events, or rural depopulation.

The participants to whom the project is aimed are professionals who carry out their activity in protected areas (including Biosphere Reserves, Natura 2000, etc.) and their territorial environment. Special attention will be paid to the incorporation of young people and women into the actions. The forecast of the total number of net participants adds up to 270.
