During the 2008/2009 academic year, the Sponsor a Tree Foundation has launched, in collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation, an educational and environmental recovery project that aims to carry out twenty experimental forestry days on the Solanillos Farm (Mazarete, Guadalajara).

Each group participating in this program develops its activity over the course of a day, carrying out work in the mountains and in the nursery and orchard facilities of the Environmental Education Complex that the Sponsor a Tree Foundation has launched in Solanillos. The collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation for the realization of this project allows the participating groups to enjoy the field activity, monitoring, tools and materials and food for free.

With this day, more than 100 students, from the I.E.S. Alcarria Baja de Mondéjar, inaugurated this program with the realization, among other activities, of a series of experimental salvages on the quercineas that are naturally regenerating on the Farm, making a selection of the best shoots to invigorate the whole forest mass.

Through the presence of different groups of volunteers carrying out these forest regeneration tasks, a healthy, diverse forest mass will be achieved with a much lower risk of fires due to the elimination of excess vegetable fuel which, in turn, can be converted into raw material usable as fuel in the biomass boilers that supply heating and domestic hot water to the Solanillos Environmental Education Centre.
