NGOs and non-profit organisations can present their projects on public awareness campaigns for the prevention of pollution and climate change, in order to qualify for the aid that the Ministry of the Environment, through the General Secretariat for the Prevention of Pollution and Climate Change, has been launched to finance this type of activity.

The “II Programme of Aid to Non-Governmental Entities and Organisations for the Implementation of Awareness Campaigns for the Prevention of Pollution and Climate Change”, corresponding to the 2006 Call, has a total budget of 1,750,000 euros. The maximum amount of each project may never exceed 150,000 euros; This measure is expected to increase the number of beneficiary projects.

The objective of the Programme is to subsidise any activity aimed at informing, raising awareness or training any group for the prevention of pollution and climate change, such as the minimisation and reuse of waste, or any of the specific topics contemplated in the Programme’s call. The deadline for completion of the proposed activities is 15 April 2006, according to article 48.3 of the Law on the Legal Regime of Public Administrations and the Common Administrative Procedure.

The experience of the first call in 2005 has been highly valued. All the beneficiary projects responded above the established requirements and reached most of the Autonomous Communities. 41% of the projects funded in the last call developed activities in the field of climate change from a global perspective; Other areas of action focused on emissions reduction, waste management, forests as carbon sinks and sustainable management. Most of these projects had the school environment as a priority audience.
