This project aims to reintroduce the bearded vulture in the National Parks of Picos de Europa and Ordesa-Monte Perdido, both included in the European Natura 2000 Network.
Supported by the EU through the LIFE 2012 call, this plan seeks to reinforce the reintroduction of bearded vultures, carried out in the same area in 2002. Currently, both the promotion at European level of these reintroduction plans and the increase of the Pyrenean population of bearded vultures may allow the recovery -in a few decades- of the former distribution areas where this species was present at the beginning of the 20th century.
To achieve this objective, the release of between two and six specimens in the Picos de Europa National Park is planned, as well as the detailed monitoring of 15 reproductive units of this species in the Pyrenees.
