October 18, 2023- October 18, 2023- October 18, 2023- October 18, 2023- October 18, 2023 The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), has presented today, during the seminar “Training for green employment”, the results of the Empleaverde Program, co-financed by the European Social Fund, an initiative to promote the sustainability of economic activities in all sectors that has led, during the period 2014-2020 the creation of 1,300 jobs linked to the green economy.
During the conference, the results of the report “Employment and ecological transition”, promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation and the Spanish Office of Climate Change, which identifies employment opportunities, new professional skills and technical and professional skills needed to promote the ecological transition, were also presented.
During the seminar, which was attended by the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Elena Pita, the director of the Spanish Office for Climate Change, Valvanera Ulargui, and the deputy director general of the Administrative Unit of the European Social Fund of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, Ángel Mª García, highlighted the results obtained thanks to the ten calls for grants launched during the life of the Empleaverde Program, which have supported 282 projects to boost employment and green entrepreneurship, aimed at more than 28.28,000 people, facilitating the creation of 1,300 jobs and more than 200 companies linked to the green economy. With this program, the Biodiversity Foundation has promoted the just transition to a low-carbon and circular economy, integrating biodiversity into business management and processes and making a more efficient use of natural resources, constituting an engine for sustainable economic growth and social progress.
The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Elena Pita, stressed that “the creation of green jobs is one of the benefits of the ecological transition, but the challenge is that we must address it in a fair and equitable way, facilitating access to employment, taking into account vulnerable groups and taking into account the territorial impact”. For her part, the director of the Spanish Climate Change Office, Valvanera Ulargui, stated that “this is the moment in which coherence is needed in the regulatory framework to redirect investment with the objective of achieving a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 compared to 1990”.
Also, the deputy director general of the European Social Fund (ESF) Administrative Unit, Ángel María García Frontelo, pointed out the importance of social inclusion in all areas of the ecological transition, “that is why the new Empleaverde+ Program will include this social dimension of jobs, linking directly with the objectives of the European Social Fund Plus”.
During the day, a space for reflection and working forum was also organized, with the participation of experts from academia and the public and private sectors on green training, to make visible the opportunities of the green economy, as well as to identify key needs in this area in order to set the guidelines for the new Empleverde+ Program, which launches the Biodiversity Foundation, as Intermediate Management Body of the European Social Fund Plus. Thus, the program evolves to move towards a climate-neutral and regenerative economy, efficient in the use of resources and circular to generate new employment and business opportunities. The objective of this new period is to contribute to promoting the ecological transition by focusing on improving skills and training in the sectors linked to this transition, where vocational training processes are particularly important.
The new Empleaverde+ Program aims to contribute to respond to the needs identified in the study “Employment and ecological transition” and will support training projects within the framework of a culture of lifelong learning. 44 million and the first call for applications is expected to be published before the end of this year.
DISSEMINATION OF GOOD PRACTICES
During the seminar, four training projects that benefited from the previous period of the Empleaverde Program were also presented, which have stood out for their high success rate in achieving results.
