- The Ecosocial Center seal seeks to distinguish schools and institutes that promote the values of sustainable, fair and democratic education
- This distinction, which has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, is endorsed by FUHEM, SM Foundation, University of Cantabria and Ecosocial Link
- The commitment to environmental education is reinforced by supporting initiatives that promote sustainable lifestyles and encourage citizen participation in the ecological transition
The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge collaborates with FUHEM in the implementation of actions that contribute to promoting education for sustainability in schools.
FUHEM has promoted the creation of the Ecosocial Center seal, which seeks to distinguish schools and institutes that promote the values of sustainable, fair and democratic education. This seal, which has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation through the project Changing lifestyles to recover nature, is endorsed by the FUHEM itself, the SM Foundation, the University of Cantabria and Vinculo Ecosocial.
Through this distinction, a process of transformation is pursued and the possibility of exchanging experiences and good practices with other educational centers is offered. In addition, there is guidance towards the school and its objectives, through personalized advice at no cost to schools.
To access this seal, it is necessary to belong to a teaching network that is already working on the ecosocial paradigm or there is also the option of completing a self-assessment questionnaire to find out the starting point of the centre. In addition, an improvement plan adapted to the center must be developed, with the support of FUHEM and attend an annual meeting of ecosocial transformation centers, for which there are various options both face-to-face and virtual.
This distinction seeks to encourage and motivate interested schools to start or move towards a recognized ecosocial education. For more information, any interested centre can contact FUHEM, an independent non-profit foundation that promotes social justice, the deepening of democracy and environmental sustainability, through educational activity and work on eco-social issues.
ENGINE FOR SOCIAL
TRANSFORMATIONFor the MITECO Biodiversity Foundation, the promotion of more sustainable lifestyles is a priority line of action and therefore it is developing a programme of actions within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (RTRP), financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, which will continue thanks to the financing of other funds.
The programme aims to promote measures that integrate and encourage more sustainable lifestyles in citizens, coordinate the policies that promote them and promote governance, cooperation and training.
In the field of education, the MITECO Biodiversity Foundation also coordinates some of the actions of the Environmental Education for Sustainability Action Plan (PAEAS), prepared by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPD).
This reinforces the commitment to environmental education, by supporting projects that promote sustainable lifestyles and encourage citizen participation in the ecological transition. This includes the creation of spaces for dialogue and learning to address the challenges of the climate emergency. Environmental education is an engine for social transformation and its implementation requires a joint effort between governments, teachers and society in general.
