Automated end-to-end solution for efficient sorting and recycling of plastic polymers

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The project consists of the investment in two automatic lines to increase recycling efficiency through the use of advanced technologies in an automated sorting line with artificial intelligence and optical sensors to separate plastic polymers and another efficient washing, shredding and granulation line to obtain high-quality recycled plastic. The aim is to improve the sustainability and circularity of processes, increasing efficiency by more than 47% and reducing waste sent to landfill by 53%.

The overall objective of the project is to increase the efficiency of recycling plastic polymers from lightweight packaging and packaging, by investing in advanced technologies that improve waste sorting and recycling of plastic into high-quality pellets. They want to achieve a reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfill from 90% to 53% and to go from 10% to 47% in the recovery of recycled material. The treatment of 11,100 tonnes/year of light packaging and packaging will be maintained. Of this amount, 51.55% corresponds to plastic waste, composed of PET (16.28%), HDPE (6.14%), LDPE (15.50%), PP (4.67%) and plastic mixture (8.96%). The remaining 48.45% is made up of paper and cardboard (4.83%), ferrous metals (6.71%) and non-ferrous metals (2.52%), rejection (26.55%), fines (2.25%) and others (5.59%).
