PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The objective of the project is to improve the ecological status of the Huerva River. To this end, actions are proposed to improve the hydromorphological and physicochemical state of the waters, complemented by the restoration and renaturalization of the riverside vegetation. A line of work with a social component proposes to facilitate the accessibility of the population to the Huerva River.

The lower section of the Huerva River where the restoration project is part of the ESMSFP0910115 of the Huerva River from the Mezalocha dam to the mouth of the Ebro River, running within the city. With the urban development of the city, there have been hydromorphological alterations deteriorating its condition, it has an aged and small riverside structure as well as uncontrolled discharges in the urban section between the Blasco del Cacho and Emperador Augusto Bridges, causing a clear deterioration of the ecological state. As a consequence of all this, the Huerva River is a natural space that cannot be used and enjoyed by the population.

RE-PAPAH focuses on river restoration actions that will favour the natural processes of the river, as well as mitigation, adaptation and protection of flood risks, increasing biodiversity in urban environments and their conservation. The aim is to renaturalise the area of the Huerva River, which is currently very degraded, making this area an attractive environment for use and enjoyment by the population.

Some of the actions contemplated in this project are:

  • Reproduction of morphological or generative floods.
  • Improved longitudinal continuity. Construction of a naturalized fish crossing in the transverse obstacle generated downstream of the foundation of the bridge of the Imperial Canal of Aragon.
  • Contribution of sediments to improve the structure and substrate of the bed and emerging formations.
  • Improvement of the structure of the riverside vegetation.
  • Management and control of exotic species.
  • Creation of plant spaces for staying and enjoying the river space.
