The reinforcement of the Stranding Network of the Principality of Asturias (RVPA), provides for the construction of a center for the assistance, entry, rehabilitation and reintroduction into the natural environment of rescued specimens, which guarantees the level of welfare of the animals.

RVPA will allow the integration of Bioparc into the stranding network of the Principality of Asturias, which will provide the animals stranded alive with a place and adequate care for their recovery and subsequent release. It will also contribute to raising awareness among the population about the need to care for biodiversity.

  • ASSEMBLY OF THE RECOVERY AREA: Installation of a specific area prepared for the reception, recovery and maintenance of stranded marine species. Space attached to the current BIOPARC Aquarium of Gijón.
  • ACTIVATION OF THE NECESSARY MEASURES FOR THE RECOVERY OF ANIMALS: Preparation of the necessary facilities and equipment according to the species and the number of individuals to be recovered.
  • SPECIFIC DATA COLLECTION ON EACH STRANDING OR INTERVENTION: Activation of the animal recovery protocol (need for diagnosis and assessment of treatments if necessary).
  • COMMUNICATION PLAN: Throughout the execution of the project, the general population will be informed through the traditional press and social networks of all those activities undertaken by the Bioparc Foundation in the tasks of recovering stranded animals.
  • ACTION PLAN AND INFORMATIVE WORKSHOPS: Throughout the execution of the project, a series of events, workshops, and newsletters will be held that can serve to raise awareness among the general public of the importance of preserving species and how to act in the event of detecting a stranded marine species.
