PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The project will carry out the research and development of predictive models and tools that allow the design of D4R structures suitable for treatment processes in the food, after packaging, so that the number of development and validation tests of new designs and materials can be reduced, evolving from the trial-and-error testing model. to a conscious design and rational request for tests, so that the impact on the preparation of test coils is reduced with their respective generation of waste, waste of materials and machine stoppages.

The aim of the project is the research and development of flexible single-layer packaging for food use, compatible with heat treatments. Likewise, the development of a prediction tool based on computational models to optimize the design process is proposed. As secondary objectives, the following are proposed:

  • Identification, selection and improvement of new formulations of raw materials suitable for the design of mono-material structures to improve the recyclability/circularity of the final packaging.
  • Development of mono-material structures suitable for transformation processes and heat treatments, ensuring not only their functionality and product protection, but also food suitability.
  • Development of a predictive tool that allows estimating key properties of monomaterials under heat treatment and conservation conditions, as well as the evaluation of paper-based alternatives to plastic under different environmental conditions.
  • Analysis and identification of alternative additives to PFA’s that allow operating in the current packaging conditions and high temperatures, in the thermal processes of transformation and conservation.
  • Evaluation of recycling processes and conditions of new product configurations.
