Despite the scientific evidence on the impact of climate change, the adoption of adaptation measures in protected areas needs to be accelerated. That is why the justification for the project arises from the insufficient transfer of scientific knowledge to management and the lack of collaborative planning in scenarios with a high degree of uncertainty. According to the entity, scientific-technical criteria have recently been developed to incorporate climate change adaptation measures in their planning and management. For all of the above, the effort of the administrations will not be effective without social involvement. Analysis of environmental perceptions is necessary to more effectively address the design and implementation of adaptation measures.
The main objective has focused on accelerating the development of climate change adaptation measures in Spain’s protected areas.
Two pilot experiences have been launched in the Sierra Espuña Regional Park and in the Garajonay National Park with the aim of designing, in collaboration with socio-economic actors and with the managers of both spaces, proposals for actions to adapt to climate change.
