  • This project has focused on the celebration of the II International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy (MARLICE 2022).
  • It has contributed to improving management, governance, research and marine conservation processes in relation to marine debris and its impacts on species and areas of the Natura 2000 Network.
  • Extensive communication work has been carried out, with campaigns on social networks and the creation of a website and a mobile application.

The project aims to align strategies among the different sectors related to the problem of marine debris, keeping biodiversity as a banner in specific or cross-cutting international policies that affect aspects related to the impact of waste in order to achieve the good environmental status of the ocean.

It also seeks to contribute to the integration of the conservation objectives of the Natura 2000 Network in relation to marine debris within an international forum, as well as to raise public awareness of the importance of marine conservation projects and plans to improve the health of the ocean.

The overall objective of the project is to improve the management, governance, research and marine conservation processes related to marine debris and its impacts on species and areas of the Natura 2000 Network.

You have the following specific goals:

  • Promote the networking of experts and organizations at the international level on the problem of the impacts of marine debris on habitats and species and on actions to mitigate and remove marine debris in Natura 2000 Network sites.
  • Permeate society on the importance of marine conservation projects and plans to improve the health of the oceans.
  • Coordination and integration of the actions programmed within the MARLICE 2022 Forum and its marlice4people dissemination axis.
  • Organization of a specific session based on three axes: trash fishing and other removal and mitigation actions with special attention to the Natura 2000 Network; impact of marine debris on highly migratory species and their role as environmental indicators; and the impact of marine debris on sensitive habitats and species of the Natura 2000 Network.
  • Preparation and dissemination of a technical report on the conclusions of the session in specialized forums and official channels.
  • Organization of an informative activity within the marlice4people program aimed at the general public.
  • Dissemination and communication of the project.
  • This project has focused on the celebration of the II International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy (MARLICE 2022).
  • It has contributed to the alignment of strategies among the different sectors related to the marine debris problem.
  • Efforts have been made to integrate the conservation objectives of the Natura 2000 Network in relation to marine debris within this international forum.
  • To this end, a specific block of two sessions has been programmed, focused on the impact of marine debris on habitats, spaces and species.
  • Extensive work has been carried out to disseminate the project, with campaigns on social networks and the creation of a web space and a mobile application to monitor the forum and promote volunteer actions within the framework of citizen science.
  • The conclusions of the project have been transferred to different public administrations, contributing to the transfer of knowledge.
