The Fundación Canaria Parque Científico Tecnológico de la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (FCPCT-ULPGC) has developed, with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, the project “Development of ecotourism activities in the coastal areas of the Biosphere Reserve of Gran Canaria: catalogue of products and risk analysis” for to promote the development of ecotourism activities in the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve for socioeconomic, cultural, tourist and environmental progress.
Based on the study of marine and coastal resources and market demand, a catalogue of ecotourism of the coastal areas of the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve has been developed, with active tourism activities (dives, routes and marine tourism) and gastrotourism (gastronomic itineraries and culinary events and workshops). The aim is to promote the supply of existing and new activities, as well as to boost the local economy and diversify the activities of the artisanal fishing sector. For the preparation of the catalogue, they have taken into account the possible impacts as a result of ecotourism activities in the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve, based on bioindicators established by FCPCT-ULPGC researchers and the agents involved.
