Optimisation and digitalisation of the monitoring of conspicuous game species (ODISEC)

MITECO

  • The project seeks to optimize the management of deer, roe deer and partridge by collecting, digitizing, standardizing and analyzing information on their distribution, abundance and population trends. To this end, the workflow developed in the LIFE project will be adapted Iberconejo, since these species, like the rabbit, allow their density to be estimated through direct counts and have annual catch statistics.

The project aims to improve the management of deer, roe deer and partridge through standardised and digitised monitoring of their populations. To this end, monitoring data will be collected and digitised, standardising methodologies, databases and analyses of abundance and population trends. In addition, a semi-automated flow of information and analysis will be created, which will include an application for data collection in the field and a platform for information dumping and visualisation of results. Likewise, the personnel involved in the use of these tools will be trained.

It has these specific goals:

  • Collection and digitization of current data and historical series of deer, roe deer and partridge tracking.
  • Design, testing and implementation of the SMART application and the Iberconejo platform for the monitoring of deer, roe deer and partridge.
  • Increase in digital skills and training in computer applications for sampling and data analysis, contributing to good practices in digitization, standardization and publication of data.
  • Collecting hunting statistics and Distance data.
  • Upload of data to the statistical analysis and results platform.
  • Scripts for performing the Distance analysis , the calculation of the automated integrated hierarchical model and its trends.
  • Adaptation of the SMART application and creation of specific interfaces on the Iberconejo platform.
  • Training courses for the use of SMART and the platform.
  • Knowledge transfer and collaboration between agents to optimize data collection and sharing.
