Snow tourism is one of the most sensitive to weather changes. The current increase in temperature, the change in precipitation patterns, the reduction of precipitation and snow cover thickness, or soil erosion and tree line retraction are already negatively impacting the length of the ski season and the reduction of skiable areas.
All this threatens the viability and sustainability of a sector that plays a decisive role as a source of income for a large part of the Aragonese Pyrenees. Therefore, mountain ecosystems must urgently adapt to this crisis to ensure the viability of their economic and social development.
The main objective is to generate alternatives for adaptation to climate change in mountain ecosystems dependent on snow tourism that improve the resilience of the territory and social cohesion.
Specific goals include:
Resilience of mountain ecosystems: analysis of climate change impacts and conflict prevention in the development of snow tourism and its application in the Aragonese Pyrenees (PNACC – Snow Tourism)
