The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment launches a new edition of the Spanish section of the European Environmental Awards for business.
These awards, organised since 1987 by the European Commission, recognise those companies that successfully combine the economic viability of their businesses with the protection of the environment, and they do so by introducing eco-innovations in management, processes, products or services they offer, business cooperation or combining business and biodiversity.
Any company from an EU Member State or candidate country can apply until 16 November 2015. To be eligible for the Awards, companies must first pass a national knockout phase. This two-stage process ensures that the winning companies are the most innovative, responsible and forward-thinking in Europe.
In Spain, the European Business Awards for the Environment have been held since 1997 and represent important recognition for the winning companies both in society and in the world of business and sustainability.
In the 2013/2014 edition, twelve Spanish companies were winners and participated in the European competition, where they competed with 140 other companies from all over Europe. The Spanish company Red Eléctrica de España was the winner in the Business and Biodiversity category in December 2014.
The awards were presented by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, in a ceremony held on June 5, 2014 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment.
